Why Library "Learning Commons"?

What's in a name?  In the case of our library area at Garth Webb, a name defines our mission.  Though we are a library in the official sense of the word -we lend books, provide a study/teaching area and access to technology, that is not all we are.

The "learning commons" concept is one where the traditional library area is more flexible, more fluid and honours both collaboration and individual study.  New technologies are embraced and students can feel empowered to access information in both traditional and non-traditional ways.
